Real Experiences

"I was not going to leave a review in case this was a one of incident, however, upon reading recent similar reviews - I feel I need to outline my families experience with this rescue and why I would recommend steering clear of it.Unfortunately, my experience with this rescue has not been great. We adopted our family dog about a year ago and she is the greatest thing that has ever happened to us! The rescue itself seemed okay on our visits, and we were reassured by thier "lifetime rescue back up/support" listed in thier contracts when adopting an animal. However, from the moment we brought her home we knew something was wrong. She had just been spayed so we knew she had been seen by a vet, but we decided to take her to our own. When adopting her the rescue made it clear that she had NO HEALTH CONCERNS to note, this was unfortunately untrue. Aside from being fed food she was allergic to at the rescue, she also had a UTI, infected milk glands, partial blindness in one eye and a heart murmur. Our own vets started her on a course of strong anti-biotics and painkillers for her various infections, which they explained were quite developed so couldn't have been recent and we discussed surgery options if that didn't help. Thankfully, the medicine worked and she was on the mend within 2 weeks. We talked plans to manage her heart murmur and blindness to ensure that they are carefully watched and don't develop any further, including monthly appointments to check for signs of worsening. The second night of her being home, we unfortunately had to call the emergency vets as something was really wrong. The food they had given us to feed her while weening her on to our food was the cause. She was severely allergic to chicken, she was lethargic, barely able to lift her own head, shaking, vomiting, white gums and swollen face, the vet gave her some meds and told us immediately stop feeding her anything with chicken in and she recovered fully. But it was a truly harrowing experience and scared our family to the core. When I reached out to the rescue to inform them what happened, they were EXTREMELY dismissive and told me that I was essentially lying and she was just settling in. Which of course, is untrue. I explained the issues that had been discussed with the vets, they again were dismissive and told us that she was "just settling in". I have never heard of a dog suddenly developing infections, allergies, blindness or a heart murmur within 2 days of coming into a new home. But the staff member I spoke to proceeded to shout down the phone to us, talking over us and explaining how we "know nothing about dogs".We also contacted them 9 times over the last year with some concerns we had and they essentially dissmissed and ghosted us.Despite many attempts to contact the rescue for proof of our dogs assessments by relevant people (e.g. vets, police, etc) we were faced with patronising language, dismissive claims and eventually no responses despite clear promises. It has now been 4 months since we were promised we would be sent our dogs paperwork and we are being ignored when calling/emailing.The staff we spoke to when visiting the rescue and upon arrival of our dog were lovely, particularly the receptionist and the dog transporter, however, the others left a lot to be desired in terms of communication and respect. This recue promises lifetime back up for your new family member, and even go as far as to make it clear within the adoption contracts that you sign. At the time this put us at ease and we felt we would be supported by the rescue, especially during the settling in period, but this was just a lie.Although our dog is incredible and we would do anything for her, I would NEVER adopt from Carla Lane again. Unfortunately, our experience with the people involved with this rescue has been nothing short of disrespectful throughout and I (with a heavy heart) would NOT RECOMMEND adopting from this rescue."

"UPDATE: only fair I update this, I have since been contacted by a lovely lady called Fran, who is one of the trustees, she has offered some great support and will remain in contact through Ginny’s journey. I rescued my girl in January; was told she had a full vet check with a full bill of health. The night we got her I noticed something wrong with her being incontinent. I asked if this had been an issue and was told it would be a settling in period. Was also informed she had been spayed before they got her. The next day I ended up taking her to my local vet as I knew something was wrong. The vet immediately put her on a drip, she was severely underweight (which we knew) but she had an infection too. She had scans, urine samples and bloods done. The results were concerning so we had to rush her to north west vet specialist for more invasive tests. She was then diagnosed with diabetes incipidus, her kidneys were abnormal, and covered in cysts. This is the reason she is incontinent. She had three surgeries, during that time we found out the muscles around her vulvar haven’t developed properly and needed a further surgery at a different vet specialist hospital. We have had to cover all the costs ourselves as this was a prior condition that wasn’t covered by insurance. I have tried numerous times to request help from Carla lane, spend to a range of different people who, all except one have been extremely rude and dismissive. My girl is on three different tablets a month costing over £100, specialist food that costs over £100, we have spent over £9000 on vet bills, surgeries, medications, treatments antibiotics, steroids, drips etc and no one has been willing to help. I understand they have their own bills and other dogs to rescue, but, to be completely left and spoken to appallingly by the manager over email, when we have futted all the bills so far. Our girl is now possibly in kidney failure which is costing more and has a high chance of not even being successful. I find it quite ridiculous that nobody is willing to help at all or offer even an apology that she was allowed to be rescued in such a state. I didn’t want to be taking this so publicly but no one answers the phone, I have emailed countless times and not received a response or been met with rudeness! We also found out she hadn’t been spayed, and was told by a volunteer that the full cost of her spaying would be covered, then the manager emailed saying they would cover half the costs."

"A little disorganised but I recognise that they are running on a shoe string. We adopted a beautiful Staffie cross and once the adoption was agreed everything went very smoothly. Carla Lane gave a very accurate description of the dog's needs a d were extremely helpful. They provide a wonderful and very caring approach to adoption and look after the dogs very well."

"Me and my partner both sent very detailed applications in for a certain pup my partner fell in love with.We currently have 2 dogs that we give the best life.We live a literal 2 minute walk from an XX acre golf course. We live within 5 foot fencing. Our dogs are walked twice a day, spoilt rotten, and we both work from home.We applied with high hopes of possibly being given a chance to come in and view the dog we applied for tbf or at least had some sort of phone call. The original owner of the dog even vouched for us both.We followed up with voicemails, calls & emails to really show that we were adamant and interested about giving the dog the best life and possibility with high hopes of joining our family. Then text for updates because we’d honestly fallen in love with him and was ignored. I text and asked if a new home had been chosen after being told by them people would be short listed only to be told a home had been selected straight away.We don’t even get the chance of any contact with anyone via appt or phone call even though we’d left voice mails as stated above. In my opinion seems like an inside job and find it very disappointing that we weren’t given any chance in the selection process and the new owner was just chosen 3 days within the post being uploaded even though there had been hundreds of applicants. Surely this would take a bit longer than 3 days? The new owner was chosen based on first come first serve, surely it should be which home is best suited.Don’t recommend this place to anyone due to lack of communication and poor selection process. Don’t get your hopes up."

"I applied and went to meet Lexie (~22nd Jan)but when I arrived discovered Lexie’s reactiveness had been “play-down” in the telephone call with the centre (Chris) and there was no point for me to meet Lexie. In addition, there had been no mention of Lexie’s previous medical issues either! I understand Things can be misunderstood so it was suggested I should meet Coco instead as she would be far more suitable 👍 Coco was not at the centre that day but would be the following Saturday. The centre manager said Chris would call me, on that Saturday, to arrange a meet. I’m still waiting! Why suggest an alternative dog then not follow up. The answer might be in the auto email response to the initial application! If you are short listed we will contact you (but if you are not shortlisted we are too busy so won’t bother). They invite applications to adopt but can’t be bothered to reply saying “thanks but given the supplied info we don’t think you are a good match” It’s like school leavers applying for a job and the company which has invited applications can’t be bothered to give a polite refusal!! If that’s the respect they give to the people they invite to apply how do they treat the four legged inmates 🤔🤔"
