About This Centre

Hedgehog Rescue South Gloucestershire was started in 1999 by Val Robinson and Yvonne Cox. It is now run by Yvonne from her back garden in Yate with a group of volunteers who help each day with cleaning, weighing and feeding the hedgehogs in her care. We take over 300 hedgehogs in per year and can house up to around 70 at any one time. We are entirely self-funded with no government backing or help. We have been supported by our local council with grants, Waitrose green token appeal, Chipping Sodbury Chamber of Commerce and kind donations from people who have supported us either with a one off donation or a monthly standing order. Yvonne also gives talks to all age groups which brings in much needed funding.

"Such an amazing charity / rescue centre! I’ve volunteered here for 5-6 months and really enjoyed my time here. The volunteers have thorough knowledge of hedgehogs and really know what’s best for them; so much work goes into making sure they’re comfortable while on the mend. It’s amazing what you can do in a shed at the back of someone’s garden! Will really miss volunteering here. Yvonne and the team are wonderful!"

"I guess they do what they can...but I'm consistently told to take injured or sick hoglets to vets...that's fine but in the late afternoon they're shut plus I've no transport anyway...I have one as I type...small probably last year's offspring or very early this year's. Everywhere shut for the weekend as apparently animals are not allowed to be ill or get injured at this time. It's saddens me as they're getting rare now and I'm not sure she'll survive till Monday without intervention. I tried šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø"

"Lovely, friendly ladies with a lot of knowledge at this rescue. I had become very fond of the little hedgehog I dropped off but felt very assured that she will be well looked after. I even got to name her, hopefully little Onyx will make it to adulthood. Thank you for taking her in."
