Real Experiences
"Unfortunately I found the need to use GSDR to rehome my 1 year old boy through no fault of his own. First contact was through the website, I was then contacted by Hazel who asked a few more questions and explained the process to me. Hazel was very understanding of my situation. I was then contacted by an assessor namely Paul who reassured me that he was suitable for rehoming and explained the process further. Around 4 weeks later, thanks to GSDR he was successfully rehomed. Although upsetting for myself, the process was straightforward and the focus was always on him. I have received updates on how he is settling into his new home along with pictures which show he's happy. Both Hazel and Paul are a credit to GSDR they were both very professional and sympathetic throughout the whole process. I'd give them both five stars if i could. Thank you GSDR."

Her name was "Beau" strange name for a girl, we changed it to Ruby on 1st day . She came to us straight away on calling her new name , she is absolutely gorgeous and so well behaved and very loving. Thank you GSDR for helping me get all I hoped for and more. Xxx."

There was no opportunity to express interest in specific dogs, nor was there consistency in communication with a single representative throughout the process. Instead, decisions were made based on the teamās own preferences, often without meaningful consultation. One example that raised serious concerns was being told that a dog who had merely āwalked past a school and seen childrenā was considered suitable for a home with a young child. Such a claim suggests a concerning lack of rigour in behavioural assessments and matching.Communication was often dismissive and patronising. I question how many successful adoptions have actually taken place when the process appears driven more by internal opinion than genuine collaboration with experienced adopters. At no point did it feel that the dogsā best interests were at the heart of the application process.Furthermore, internal disagreements and unprofessional behaviour were evident ā not what one expects from a charitable organisation. The process felt judgmental rather than inclusive, and certain team members, particularly Jo, would benefit from a more thoughtful, less reactive approach when engaging with prospective adopters.I would not recommend this organisation. There are far more professional and compassionate rescues out there, such as GSD Elite or the RSPCA, who genuinely prioritise the welfare of the dogs and work collaboratively with adopters.Itās disheartening to see resources potentially being spent on extended kennel stays while genuine rehoming opportunities are overlooked. I sincerely hope this approach hasnāt prevented more dogs from finding the loving homes they deserve. Emotions and personal bias should never interfere with the core mission of rehoming dogs ā that should be fundamental.***update after your expected vile and nasty reactive response- one that is not conducive to a ācharitableā organisation. Many thanks for my evidence Jo***"

These dogs can prove expensive to own and they need lots of exercise and social stimulation. They are highly intelligent and can suffer from anxiety separation if left for long periods. Having pointed these factors out , you will never own a more loyal canine companion if treated properly. There is a great deal of useful information on the site to help you should you decide to adopt one of these magnificent dogs."
