About This Centre

The Birkett~Smith Animal Sanctuary was founded a few years ago on a smallholding in Dorset and formalised as a registered Charity not long after. We provide forever homes for domestic, farm and wildlife animals. Most have behavioural issues, are aggressive, old, disabled, human scared etc...so we basically take the animals that stand little or no chance or gaining homes let alone the security of a forever home. Our c200 animals include dogs, cats, pigs, sheep, horses, all farm birds, emus and even a seagull! We are one of the the very few UK sanctuaries that will take aggressive and fear aggressive dogs as we have a no kill policy full stop.

"This woman is a charlatan. Don’t fall for it. I sent my dog there for fear based aggression. She wouldn’t let me see inside the place. Lottie was given training about random things like wheeled objects. But worse . She contracted serious UITI with turned into a kidney infection . As nobody noticed . I had to pay hundreds of pounds in vet fees. When I came to pick Lottie up she smelled disgusting, her fur was matted and she was totally miserable. This woman pets on people’s misery . Don’t encourage her"

"I had to transport a reactive dog today from here to a kennels in Swindon. Joy ran a very professional operation whilst loading the dog. on arrival in Swindon, Joy took time to be available for telephone and video call to assist in the unloading operation which was, shall we say, challenging! The process was only made possible by Joys help. much appreciated šŸ‘"
